Why run beehiiv surveys in ConvertFlow
Most survey tools give you a report. The answers sit in a dashboard, someone reads them once, and nothing downstream changes.
A survey wired into beehiiv behaves differently. Each answer writes to a custom field or applies a tag on the subscriber record — so what a reader tells you changes which issues and sequences they get, not just what a spreadsheet says.
For a newsletter this is the cheapest segmentation there is. You already have the audience; you just haven't asked them anything.
Connect beehiiv to ConvertFlow
Add your v2 publication ID and API key — both from beehiiv's Settings page — to ConvertFlow's Integrations area.

Before you build: create the beehiiv custom field your survey will write to, so it's there to select.
How to build the best beehiiv surveys
By adding a survey to your ConvertFlow landing page, popup, or embed, you can ask visitors a question and present fixed answers for them to select.
To add one, click to add an element and choose the "survey" element type.
Survey options
Once you've selected a survey element, you'll be able to manage its options in the builder panel.

Add options, arrange their position, edit their text, and map the survey to a beehiiv custom field. Toggle "multi-select" if readers should be able to choose more than one — multiple values are written separated by commas.
Each option can also carry an image, so the survey can present clickable images rather than text.
To control additional settings for your survey options, such as:
- Separating the data value from the displayed label
- The image used in the survey option
- The score increase or decrease applied by the option
Click on the survey option to open a settings modal where you can control each of these.

Map answers to beehiiv fields
Use the "Map to custom field" dropdown on the survey element and select from your beehiiv fields.

Keep answer values short and consistent — weekly rather than Weekly would be about right — since these are the strings your beehiiv segments match against, and may appear in a merge field.
Styling your survey
Below the option settings and in the "Themes" tab, you'll find style controls — width, text alignment, fonts, colours, sizing, whether options are stacked or responsive, drop shadows and more.

Survey confirmation actions
With a survey element selected, click to the "Actions" tab to choose what happens when someone selects an option.

- Redirect readers to a URL
- Show another step in the campaign, or specific steps based on the selection
- Display a thank you message
- Display another ConvertFlow campaign

Adding beehiiv automations
Alongside ConvertFlow actions, add beehiiv automations once someone has answered — subscribe to publication, subscribe with welcome email, update custom field, add a tag, or enroll in a beehiiv automation.

For a survey aimed at existing readers, add a tag and update custom field are the ones you want — they enrich the record without touching subscription status. Avoid the subscribe actions here, since subscribe forces a resubscribe and would quietly reverse an earlier opt-out.
Enroll in beehiiv automation is the interesting one: an answer can start a sequence for a reader who's been on your list for months. It needs the beehiiv automation to have an API trigger configured first.
Two good places to put a survey
On the subscribe confirmation. Ask one question right after someone joins, while they're most engaged. You get segmentation you didn't have to charge for at signup.
On the unsubscribe path. Ask why. The answer writes to a field, and over time it tells you whether people leave because of frequency, topic drift, or having got what they came for — which are three completely different problems.
Running scripts & pixels on completion
By adding scripts to your survey's confirmation actions, you can fire conversion pixels and perform other custom javascript. ConvertFlow runs scripts added here only after a survey option has been selected.
Adding conditional logic
By default the survey performs the confirmation action you've set. Click "+ Add Conditional Action" to act only on readers meeting your conditions — useful for applying a different tag per answer, or enrolling one answer in a specific beehiiv automation.

Target who gets asked
With beehiiv connected, target the survey to your existing subscriber segments rather than all traffic. The responses then come from people you actually send to, and land on records you can act on.
