Why run Sendlane surveys in ConvertFlow
Most survey tools give you a report. The answers sit in a dashboard, someone reads them once, and nothing downstream changes.
A survey wired into Sendlane behaves differently. Each answer is written to a custom field on the subscriber's record, so the response becomes a segment you can email against. Ask why someone hasn't repurchased and you can build an automation for each reason.
Connect Sendlane to ConvertFlow
In Sendlane, go to Account → API → API Tokens and create a v2 API token for ConvertFlow — a v1 token won't authenticate. Paste it into ConvertFlow's Integrations area.

ConvertFlow then pulls in your Sendlane lists and tags, so survey takers can be segmented and enrolled in automations the moment they answer.

Before you build: ConvertFlow maps survey answers into custom fields that already exist in Sendlane. Decide what you'll ask, then create the matching custom fields in Sendlane first.
How to build the best Sendlane surveys
By adding a Sendlane survey to your ConvertFlow landing page, popup, or embed, you can ask your visitors a question and present them with fixed answers for them to select.
To add a survey to your campaign, click to add an element and choose the "survey" element type.
Sendlane survey options
Once you've selected a survey element, you'll be able to manage its survey options in the builder panel.

Here you can add survey options, arrange their position, edit their text, and map your Sendlane survey to a custom field in Sendlane.
If you want visitors to be able to select multiple options, toggle the "multi-select" option. Multiple selected values will be mapped to your custom field separated by commas.
Each survey option can also have images if you want clickable images for visitors to select from.
To control additional settings for your survey options, such as:
- Separating the data value from the displayed label
- The image used in the survey option
- The score increase/decrease applied by the survey option
Then, click on the survey option to open up a settings modal where you can control each of these options.

Map survey answers to Sendlane custom fields
This is the step that makes the survey worth running. Use the "Map to custom field" dropdown on the survey element and select from your Sendlane custom fields.
The field needs to exist in Sendlane already — there's no create-on-the-fly. Once answers are landing on subscriber records, each becomes a segment you can build an automation against.
Keep your answer values short and consistent — too-expensive rather than It was a bit too expensive for me — because those are the strings you'll build Sendlane segment conditions against.

Styling your Sendlane survey
Below the survey option settings and in the "Themes" tab, you'll find the style controls. You can adjust the width, text alignment, fonts, colors, sizing, whether options are stacked or responsive, drop shadows, and more.

Sendlane survey confirmation actions
While a survey element is selected, click to the "Actions" tab. Here you choose what happens when someone selects a survey option.

Here are some of the actions you can perform upon survey selection:
- Redirect your visitors to a URL
- Show another step in the campaign (or specific steps based on survey selection)
- Display a thank you message
- Display another campaign you've created in ConvertFlow
- Open an SMS message to a phone number

Adding automations to your Sendlane survey
You can also add automations — ConvertFlow actions such as sending a lead alert to a team member or adding a ConvertFlow tag to segment the survey taker for future targeting.
You can also add Sendlane automations: choosing which Sendlane list the subscriber is added to, or which Sendlane tag is applied, once they've answered. Both are already in the dropdown because ConvertFlow pulled them in when you connected.
Target who gets asked
With Sendlane connected, target the survey to specific subscriber segments — buyers only for a post-purchase question, a particular cohort for NPS — rather than showing it to all traffic and diluting the responses.
Map ConvertFlow's preset fields to Sendlane
First name and email address are mapped to Sendlane for you. With Sendlane connected, your Integrations page shows a Fields mapping interface — use it to map ConvertFlow's remaining preset contact fields to Sendlane custom fields.

Running scripts & pixels when completing your Sendlane survey
By adding scripts to your survey's confirmation actions, you can fire conversion pixels in your advertising platforms and perform other custom javascript. ConvertFlow runs scripts added here only after a survey option has been selected.
Adding conditional logic to your Sendlane survey
By default, your survey performs the confirmation action you've set. But there may be scenarios where you want to act only for certain people — directing survey takers to a certain outcome based on the sum of their selections, or applying a different Sendlane tag per answer.
By clicking "+ Add Conditional Action", you can perform actions only for the visitors that meet the conditions you've defined.

Segment and personalize in Sendlane
Once answers are landing on Sendlane subscriber records, build segments from those field values, lists and tags, and target your follow-up against them.
You can also personalize your website for Sendlane subscriber segments — so what someone told you in the survey changes what they see on their next visit, not just what lands in their inbox.
