Your Discount Popup Is Killing Your Margins (Do This Instead)

Popup subscribe rate goes up, AOV and margin go down. Across thousands of ecommerce brands, we keep seeing that same pattern.

Why this happens

When we help Shopify brands scale with ConvertFlow funnels, we focus on lifting one KPI: average order value. Peacock Alley saw +32% AOV, Chilipad +41%, and May Lindstrom Skincare +49%. Higher AOV means a brand can afford a higher CAC, and that's what unlocks growth.

But Shopify works against you here. The default storefront experience is built for browsing one product at a time, so most orders end up as single SKU orders. Then the generic subscribe popup makes it worse, defaulting brands to discounting their way to more subscribers. 10% off here, 15% off there, and brands end up handing first-order margin to organic shoppers who were already going to buy.

The fix

Turn the subscribe popup into a shopping funnel. One that intercepts inbound shoppers and guides them toward a bundle instead of a single discounted item.
