Connect For FreeEmail and SMS are powerful channels to grow relationships with your audience, encourage purchases, and boost retention.
To earn subscribers, you’ll need to launch signup forms on your website. One common way is through popups.
While Klaviyo has some basic popup functionality built in, you’ll need a third-party tool for functionality such as:
Luckily, creating popups with advanced functionality that push contact data directly to your Klaviyo account is easy with ConvertFlow’s no-code drag-and-drop builder.
Launch your own Klaviyo popups with this step-by-step guide.
To do this, we’ll be using:
When you’re launching Klaviyo popups for the first time, you’re likely using them to grow your email and/or SMS list.
That’s a great place to start, but there are tons of ways to use popups with Klaviyo to reach other goals as well, like to:
Since it’s an essential place for ecommerce brands to start, we’ll create a popup to grow an email/SMS list in Klaviyo.
ConvertFlow has dozens of preset designs to choose from in the popup template library. Browse there to find a design that suits your goal.
We’ll use a two-step email & SMS template:

The template we chose has four campaign formats to choose from. Those might be helpful for future campaigns, but today we’re building a popup, so we’ll choose “Overlay Popup”:
When you choose your format, you’ll be taken to ConvertFlow’s drag-and-drop builder:
Here, you can make your Klaviyo popup your own by adding your own pictures and copy and editing forms and button actions. You can even add more elements like timers and products.
But let’s set our popup’s theme first. That’ll make it easier to keep the aesthetic design of your campaign consistent.
In ConvertFlow, you can change your popup’s appearance in two ways:
Start at the theme level for consistency. Then, change individual elements as needed.
Click the “Theme” tab in the right-side panel where you’ll see a full list of element types that can be customized:
No need to edit the theme for elements you don’t think you’ll use, but if you add something later you didn’t expect to use, be sure to go back into the Theme tab to update its design!
For this example, we’ll customize the button colors to match our brand:
You’ll notice this updates the color of the buttons in each step of our campaign, making it really easy to set the design.
Continue in this way updating each theme element to match your brand’s aesthetic preferences.
In ConvertFlow, you have a whole host of options to choose when your popup will appear to site visitors.
Find trigger settings in the “Settings” tab in the builder panel.
Choose your trigger type under “popup trigger” to show the popup on:
You can set the two-tap floating button to trigger after a customer closes the popup, too. Then, they can access it again easily when they’re ready to take advantage of your offer.
Now, let’s adjust the trigger suppression settings to prevent the popup from appearing too soon after the shopper closes it:
For example, you can set it to only display again after a certain number of minutes or days.
Trigger suppression isn’t available for “upon click only,” since it’s dependent on the shopper’s action.
Now it’s time to update your Klaviyo popup with your content.
You’ll want to customize the popup with your:
To update the content, click the element you want to change and the side panel will show you all the options you can control:
Let’s update our popup with a free gift offer instead of a discount:
You can add other elements to your campaign by clicking “Add element” at the top of the builder and dragging one into place.
Let’s try that now by adding a Timer element to create some FOMO:
We’ll update the welcome offer text too to highlight the time limit and center it all since that looks best with the timer.
To display your Klaviyo popup on your website, you’ll want to integrate your ecommerce store. We’ll assume you’re on Shopify for this guide.
Bonus: By integrating Shopify, you’ll also be able to pull in product and customer information for product promotion and personalization 🤩
From your website’s dashboard in ConvertFlow, head to “Settings,” then “Integrations” in the left-side menu. Find Shopify in the integrations menu and click “Connect”.
You'll arrive on the ConvertFlow app listing on Shopify. Click "Add app" and follow the instructions to integrate your Shopify store.
Now that Shopify is connected, ConvertFlow’s script will automatically install on your store 🦾
Now let’s connect Klaviyo so you can pass your form submissions on to your Klaviyo lists.
To connect, select the email form element in the first step in the builder. Then, click “Manage Actions”:
From here, click “Manage integrations.” Find Klaviyo in the menu and click, “Connect”:
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the integration process.
With Klaviyo connected, you’ll want to link the form fields in your popup to the correct lists so that your form submissions get logged in your database.
After adding Klaviyo, you’ll be brought back to the “Manage Actions” window. Click “Add automation”:
Select your automation type. In this case, we want to add site visitors to a list in Klaviyo, so we’ll select “Klaviyo - Add to list.” Then, choose the appropriate list from the Lists dropdown menu.
Click “Create automation,” then “Done.”
Now all new subscribers from your Klaviyo popup will be automatically added to the right list 🕺🏽
Do this again for the SMS form in the second step of the popup, choosing the right list for SMS subscribers.
The last step in the popup template we chose recommends shoppers to take a quiz:
This is a great idea to continue guiding your customers’ experience on your website and helping them find relevant products.
Click the button to choose where the button will take shoppers, then select “Manage Actions”:
Set the Default Confirmation Action Type as “Redirect to a URL” and add your quiz’s link below:
Click “Done” to save.
👉 Don’t have a quiz yet? Learn how to build a product recommendation quiz in ConvertFlow.
But you can also make this last step anything you want.
You can connect that final step to a specific product collection or another campaign.
Or, you can remove the button and make the last step a simple confirmation message.
When you’ve got your popup just how you want it, save and publish your changes.
Don’t worry, this won’t publish it on your website just yet.
Click “Preview” to test your popup:
Your popup will show up based on the trigger you set earlier and you can interact with it just like visitors will on your website.
However, testing your Klaviyo popup won’t trigger any automations, like adding an email address to your Klaviyo list. So, feel free to test out your popup’s functionality.
It’s time to set your popup live 🚀
Click “Launch.” Here you can control what pages your Klaviyo popup shows on and which shopper segments it appears to:
Klaviyo allows for basic targeting. But in ConvertFlow, you can get even more specific with who sees your campaigns.
For example, you can launch collection-specific popups that only show when a shopper is viewing certain collection pages or product pages from that collection. That way, you can show more targeted messaging that will speak to the customer’s interests.
Learn how we ran this strategy with a DTC furniture brand:
ConvertFlow also enables you to exclude existing subscribers from seeing your popup and then show them a different offer—or a reminder of their first-time purchase offer if they haven’t placed an order yet.
And there’s a ton more you can do to personalize your targeting based on a shopper’s site activity and Shopify details like cart value or contents.
When you’re done adding targeting conditions, toggle the activate switch to turn your popup on:
Woohoo! Your popup is live ⚡
The sky’s the limit when it comes to popups in ConvertFlow.
